Protecting Our Shores:

Beach Cleanup & Marine Awareness

main

On Wednesday, 30 July 2025, the shores of Baby Plage de Genève became the center of action for Protecting Our Shores, a Green Earth Action Foundation initiative uniting community action with global environmental advocacy.

The event brought together 30 attendees and 15 dedicated volunteers, who collectively removed 37.5 kg of waste, filling 30 garbage bags with plastics and other pollutants from Lake Leman’s shoreline.

From Local Action to Global Advocacy

More than just a cleanup, Protecting Our Shores doubled as an educational campaign. Participants learned about the global plastic crisis and explored practical, local solutions to reduce plastic usage in everyday life. The collected waste will be displayed in front of the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva for the next three years, serving as a striking reminder to world delegates and the public ahead of the INC-5 global negotiations. This symbolic gesture connects Geneva’s local action directly to international environmental policy discussions.

Raising Awareness About Plastic Pollution

This project exemplified GEAF’s mission: to connect practical, hands on environmental work with international advocacy. By transforming a simple beach cleanup into a symbol of accountability, civic responsibility, and environmental justice , GEAF showed how grassroots efforts can resonate on the world stage.

The Impact

  • Public awareness raised on the link between local litter and global plastic pollution.
