According to UNEP the fashion industry is one of the most resource-intensive and polluting sectors in the world. Each year, more than 92 million tons of textile waste are generated globally, while the average lifespan of garments continues to shrink. In Geneva, local collection systems are under strain, with rising volumes of used textiles exceeding sorting capacity. Many items end up resold abroad, placing additional pressure on waste systems in countries such as Ghana and Kenya.

Fashion Reborn, an initiative of the Green Earth Action Foundation (GEAF), responds to this challenge by reimagining fashion at its roots. Through creativity, education, and hands-on practice, participants will learn to repair, reuse, and upcycle clothing that will help in extending the life of garments, reducing waste at the source, and fostering a culture of sustainable consumption.

Fashion Reborn will be held at Association Histoire Sans Chute, Rue de Zurich 40, Geneva. By collaborating with Histoire sans chute, Fashion Reborn combines community-driven expertise and grassroots action to create a unique workshop-laboratory where participants can transform unused garments into new expressions of value. Together, we are weaving a future where fashion is circular, inclusive, and sustainable.

What Happens at Fashion Reborn?

Fashion Reborn is more than a workshop it’s a laboratory of ideas and actions.

  • Upcycling Workshop (Hands-On Practice):
Participants will take part in an introduction to the Sashiko technique and will learn how to repair, adjust, or creatively transform them. With guidance and provided tools, everyone leaves with at least one reimagined piece of clothing.
  • Knowledge & Awareness Capsule:
A short interactive session exploring fashion’s environmental footprint, garment care best practices, and practical tips for reuse and upcycling.
  • Community Exchange:
Over coffee, participants share experiences, discuss challenges, and exchange sustainable living tips and creating bonds that extend beyond the workshop.

Why Fashion Reborn Matters

  • Environmental Impact: According to Forbes extending the life of a garment by just nine months can reduce its carbon footprint by up to 30%
  • Local Solutions: By reusing and repairing clothes in Geneva, we help relieve pressure on global second-hand markets already overwhelmed by textile waste.
  • Personal Empowerment: Every participant leaves with new skills, confidence, and a practical way to live more sustainably.
